Easy-As-Pie Knitting Gift Idea #3!

With Halloween just a memory, Christmas is almost upon us! Nothing seems to be a more appropriate gift than one which is "homemade."

You know, once upon a time that word, "homemade" used to mean something cheap or tacky, or maybe, you didn't have the extra money to buy gifts at the mall. But, that's not the case anymore.

If there can be numerous TV stations dedicated to nothing but crafts, all day long, you know "homemade" is here to stay! Of course, "hand-made" is more the trendy word, but, either way you say it, it comes down to the same thing. Made by you!

I enjoy crafting, for Christmas, especially, but also for very unique home touches, that have turned my home into, well, "my home." What I really know about though, is knitting.

Knitting gifts are the best gifts to give, and also to receive! Once you have knitted up some of your own "hand-made" goodies, you will wonder why you waited so long! And they don't need to be items that would take half a year to complete! Sometimes, the best and most enjoyable knittables are those you can finish in an evening or a weekend. Who said small isn't good? Diamonds, anyone?

So far,in this series, we have patterns for scarves and placemats. (They are in former articles, "Easy-as-pie knitting Gifts #1 & #2.)

Today, is Gift Idea #3 -- ribbon bracelets. Even if you wouldn't wear one yourself, I just bet you have daughters or nieces or neighborhood pre-teens who would appreciate all the accessories they can get their hands on! After all, we are talking girls here!

To knit up ribbon bracelets, any ribbon yarn will do. Or you can vary the texture and use a "fancy fur". Either way knitted bracelets are easy to knit, and you can make quite a few for next to nothing.

Now, I'm not advocating stinginess or being cheap, but, most yarn is inexpensive, and when knitted up into sweaters, booties, baby items, afghans, bedspreads, hats, socks, or holiday items, they look like a million bucks! Well, at least, much more than they cost!

Ribbon yarn is wonderfully easy to knit with; and using a small needle, say size 4 or 5, cast on 8 stitches minimum. Then, just knit every row. When you have your desired length, bind off and sew up the seam, and you're done. Probably no more than one hour's worth of time; but you now have a knitted bracelet. Colors abound, so have fun deciding. And, of course, you can make your bracelets as wide across as you want, as well as small or large as desired. They make great craft show items.

Any large store, such as Wal-Mart, or JoAnn's, will carry ribbon yarn. If you don't see it, ask for it or ask for them to order it for you, or buy it online.

Get busy knitting, and next time out will be Knitting Gift Idea #4!

Easy Knitting Patterns - Knit Christmas Gifts

If you choose the right techniques and easy knitting patterns, making your own Christmas gifts

doesn't have to be intimidating. Even a beginning knitter can make wonderful gifts that will show

your love and creativity!

The key to knitting for gifts is to keep things simple, use quality

materials, and, if you want to knit several gifts, consider using one pattern multiple times.

I'm a beginning knitter (or I don't know how to knit yet)

Here's the big untold secret about knitting. If you pick a simple pattern, knitting is really

easy! If you're an absolute beginner or just feeling a little lack of confidence, knit up some

scarves in chunky, beautiful yarn.

They'll go quickly, winter scarves are wonderful to wear, and a thick "novelty" style yarn hides any little irregularities in your stitches.

If you don't know how to knit at all, pick up a book like Teach Yourself Knitting Visually or a

clear, simple how-to-knit eBook like this one

You can master the basics in less time than it took you to figure out how your email program worked.

Finding the time to make handmade gifts

This is the kicker, right? We're all crazy busy, and finding time to make hand-knit gifts might

seem completely impossible.

Here are some great opportunities to get some knitting in. Think about your own schedule and see

if there are other times you can find.

TV. This is the big one for most folks. If you watch an hour of TV a night, you can get a
beautiful gift knitted every week, at least. Two hours a night = two gifts a week. Netflix counts
too!
Train or bus commutes. If you usually manage to get a seat, especially on the train or light
rail, this is a fabulous knitting opportunity. Again, you can figure an average of a gift a week
per hour of commute time.
Waiting on hold. Does your job or home life ever find you waiting around on hold, in a doctor's office, or anywhere else? Perfect knitting opportunity.
Before-bed wind-down. Staying up on the Internet or electronic gaming until right before bed
(you know you do it) is rotten for your sleep patterns. Instead, about an hour before you want to
turn in, make yourself a cup of non-caffeinated tea, put on a recorded book or some music, and
get out your knitting needles. You know what I'm going to say next. An hour a night will equal at least one beautiful knitted gift every week.

Knit for charity

If you live in a warm climate or your friends just aren't winter scarf people, you might consider

knitting for charity. You can knit blankets for the elderly in cold climates, "comfort dolls" to

comfort children with AIDS in Africa, or hats and scarves for the homeless. Google "knit for charity" to find some great opportunities. You might even consider knitting for charity in a friend's name as a holiday gift, if you're a little short on cash for something like the Heifer Project.

Tips for knitting Christmas gifts without stress

The most important tip is to keep it simple. Even if you're a pretty proficient knitter, this isn't the time to learn a new technique or work with a skinny fingering-weight yarn that will take forever to knit up. Pick an easy knitting pattern for something like:

A winter scarf
A simple winter hat
Fun knit toys
Easy fingerless mittens

I created a Squidoo lens with lots of tips, patterns, resources and ideas--far more than I can link to in an ezinearticle. There are resources there for cute and easy knitted toys, too, and some more charity knitting ideas. You can find it at Knit Christmas Presents

If you find a pattern you like, say for an easy hat or a cute stuffed toy, use it as many times as you can for multiple presents. You'll be amazed at how much faster the second, third, and fourth version of the same pattern can be.

You also will usually want to stick with chunky yarns (this is a good use for "novelty" yarns, which have lots of texture and are usually thick but also light and fluffy), since they knit up quickly so you can make more presents. Remember that a scarf or hat should be made of nice, soft yarn so it feels good against the face. Even a beginner can make a simple scarf with novelty yarn in just a few hours, and have it look just fantastic.

Don't let the idea of knitting Christmas presents intimidate you! Keep it simple, use quick-knitting materials, make use of your downtime, and you'll have 5 or 10 heartwarming home-made gifts to give this year. Happy knitting!

Knitted Baby Blankets

What can you gift the parents of a new-born baby who have everything? Parents who have already had a baby or two will already have objects like a crib, baby's clothes, a pram and most other items, but the one gift that is always appreciated is a personalized or handmade knitted blanket. Home knitted baby blankets are much better than shop-purchased baby blankets and can either be passed down or kept to give to the baby twenty years later as an heirloom.

Up until fifty years ago, many individuals, such as aunts and grandmothers knitted and it was quite common to see hand-knitted baby blankets. This all but died out in the Seventies, Eighties and Nineties, but handcrafts have seen a resurgence in the new millennium. That has to be a positive sign. Coupled with this is the fact that modern wools, yarns and other fibres are more sturdy and safer than ever before.

That means that a hand-knitted baby blanket is a better present than ever before. There are dozens of colours and textures which makes it easy for the knitter to match any theme that the parents may have decided on for the baby's nursery.

A hand-knitted quilt or blanket is a very special gift which can either be passed down to the next baby or can be put away to be a present for the 'baby' at a later date, in the same way that a bride may put away her bridal gown for her daughter if she ever has one.

Whilst you are deciding on a design for your baby blanket, you should make safety your prime thought. This should include thought for the size or the blanket. The blanket has to fit the cot exactly so that there are no dangerous folds or gaps. The weave should also be tight enough so that small fingers and toes cannot get tangled up in them.

It is not good to have beads sewn into the blanket either. This is because babies soon begin teething and you do not want your baby to bite off a few beads and choke on them. Traditionally, parents used blue colours for a boy baby and pink for a girl and although that distinction blurred for a few decades it is being respected again so you will have to find out the sex of the baby - subtly if the knitted blanket is going to be a surprise gift.

There is no parent in the world that would not treasure a hand-knitted blanket or quilt for their new baby. It is a very extraordinary present that really will be considered as an heirloom to be passed down through the family or kept as a very special twenty-first birthday present. Embroider your name in a corner so that the person you gifted it to will always remember you too.

Discover Why Knitting Is A Great And Timeless Hobby That You Can Benefit From

Knitting is a great hobby. Many people enjoy knitting because of its many benefits. Knitting is considered as a form of art. A completed piece of knitted item is in fact the creation of a piece of art. The knitter gets to feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment in completing such an item. Living in a fast paced society, many people need to do something to distress and relax. One of the great benefits of knitting is that it is a splendid stress reliever. It helps to free the mind and hence, it is regarded as a wonderful outlet for an overworked brain. It is no wonder that some people use the activity as a retreat in stressful situations. The craft can slow down a hectic life and enable a person to unwind after a hard day's work. In a world filled with mobile phones, computers, televisions and videos, escaping for an hour to knit something soft and warm can be incredibly rejuvenating. There are people who even believe that knitting can actually fuel the creative process in other areas of their lives. They believe that the craft allows the creative part of the brain to work more effectively and find creative solutions to other areas of their lives.

Another benefit of knitting is that it is very portable and can be carried along to any place. Unlike other hobbies like weaving or cooking, the craft can easily be thrown into a bag and pulled out anytime when it is required. As such, the knitter can bring the craft along and do it during bus or train journeys, air flights or even in traffic jams. In this way, hours of waiting and traveling are not wasted away as they are used to accomplish something useful.

One benefit of knitting is that there are various choices of items to knit such as hats, socks, sweaters, jackets, shawls, scarves and pullovers. There are plenty of projects and designs to choose from to suit all levels of knitting expertise, time and budget. Besides, these pieces can be created to beautify homes or serve as special gifts for loved ones. Knitwear garments are beautiful and attractive, and many people like them. Presenting them as gifts is always well loved and appreciated.

Crafts go through phases. Many crafts are built more for speed and fad than for longevity. One benefit of knitting is that it can create long lasting items. Home accessories that are hand-knit with love and care often become heirlooms and family treasures. They are always a source of pride and joy. Besides, these invaluable items are inexpensive to make.

What is knitting? It is simply the process of forming a fabric by making interlocking loops from a continuous strand of yarn using two or more needles. Knitting is an easy craft to learn. Besides, it only requires simple materials, which are two knitting needles, some string or yarn, and a little instruction. For certain items, there are some accessories needed. For example, if you are knitting a sweater, then you will need some buttons. The choice of buttons has a great impact to a sweater. They can make the difference between an attractive garment and a stunning one.

Knitting is a popular craft among the young and old. In fact, the pool of knitting enthusiasts keeps growing. Despite the machine age eliminating the need for hand-stitched items, the popularity of knitting still continues. It is evident that many people have experienced its benefits and recognized its worth to want to continue using this craft to enhance their lives.

If you are interested to start knitting as a beginner, there are many resources available with step-by-step knitting instructions to enable you to learn doing simple projects. When you have learned the simple projects, you can proceed to do the more complicated ones. After some time, you can try to create more pieces using your own ideas. Instead of following closely to the selected knitting pattern, you can add something of your own to make the design unique. For more information, go to manage stress through recreation.

Knitting materials are also very popular and can help you not only to pay for your knitting website, but help you to actually enjoy the benefits of working full time from home. This can be especially true if as time goes on and you get to know some of the people who make these items. Home made knitting materials are a very small group of people right now and a niche that looks to be increasingly popular (and profitable) as time goes on.

Knitting Websites - Easy For Turning Your Knitting Into Cash

Whether you are knitting by hand or using a knitting machine, chances are that you have already created some knitted products. Okay, maybe some of them did not turn out as well as you would have liked but once you get good at knitting or if you have already mastered many of the knitting techniques that make your home made products both personal and beautiful, you may want to consider turning your knitting into cash. Believe it or not, this is not nearly as difficult as some people would make it out to be.

You may already have a knitting website or a knitting blog to proclaim and promote your love for knitting. If you do, you are already well ahead in the game when it comes time to turning you knitting crafts into a viable business alternative. Your knitting website will give you a portal through which you can sell many different items regarding knitting.

A website for your knitting will allow you to just as easily sell your custom knitting patterns as it will your homemade knitting arts and crafts. Maybe you want to start earning cash but you do not really have much in the way of finished products to contribute just yet. As long as you have your own knitting website, you can even sell other people's knitting crafts and still make a fairly decent living working from home. Mind you, you will need to have their permission before you start selling their products.

Many people involved in the world of arts and crafts have some great products but no real means to market them. If you already have a market in place in the form of regular readers to your knitting blog or website, you can often find what are known as affiliate opportunities allowing you to become a virtual salesperson for someone else's knitting materials. This means that you can continue to make a living while actually having the opportunity to improve your personal knitting skills until such a time as you can sell your very own knitting products on your knitting website or knitting blog.

When you are ready to get the world to help you selling your own knitting products and want to create your very own affiliate programs, the overall concept is a little bit more involved but in the meantime, setting up the means to turn your love for knitting into cash is really quite easy. If you are selling someone else's products, you generally only have to place relevant ads on web pages with relevant content. If you want to try to sell some of your own knitting patterns or knitting products, selling them can be as easy as getting a PayPal account and learning how to set up some "Buy Now" buttons on pages that display your knitting work for sale.

The actual process from start to finish to turn your knitting website into an online knitting store is relatively easy and even with a minimal of technical knowledge, can generally be accomplished in as little as one single day. As time goes on, you may have to add more but that also means that you will be able to generate even more income from your knitting work.

Creative Knitting - Get Inspired

Creative knitting is comparatively cheap and it is a worthwhile activity, that may be experienced by both male and females.

Knitting dates back to Egypt when the Egyptian males used to knit socks to safeguard their feet whilst doing work. Presently this skill is frequently accomplished by women of all ages to clothe their own families, but there are many who have made it into a rather lucrative money-making home based business.

The actual art of knitting can be a skillful activity that has once again become popular over recent years. Once it was regarded as "Grandma's" position in the family, to be able to knit cardigans, jumpers and also baby clothes for the youthful people in the family. Nonetheless, this kind of craft, particularly during the moments of economic downturn can be a comparatively affordable method to clothe the family unit.

A long time ago, knitting for newbies was taught in school. You were given an enormous pair of solid wood knitting needles along with a ball of thick white knitting cotton. It seemed to take ages to be able acquire the skill to cast the stitches on to the needles and also grasping the task of learning to knit the garter stitch pattern to create easy square knitted dishcloths. It was the initial bit of knitting accomplished and it acquired the number one spot in the kitchen.

The following job was to knit a new dolls blanket for your pram. A straightforward process you may be thinking now, nonetheless it did actually require time and patience to be able to knit a full row, after which you found you had lost some stitches. It then needed to be unravelled and also reknitted, and because the tension wasn't right what was a rectangular blanket changed into any triangle. Yet, the feeling regarding accomplishment was incredible, you had indeed produced an item of fine art.

Learning how to knit is just about the simplest, creative and most inexpensive pastime. It costs little to get started. A pair of knitting needles, any ball of knitting wool and also some time will be all that's necessary. Begin by learning how to bind on (you could find your hands becoming a little bit damp, simply sprinkle a little talc onto them to permit the wool to move around the needles).

You can begin by knitting a basic object like a scarf. There are a few quite simple to understand and also imaginative knitting patterns for newbies available from the majority of craft stores. Simply by practicing the skills you've discovered with both the garter and also purl stitches and also changing colours with the wool, you can create a really original and also basic scarf. You could even do a double ribbed patterned scarf, simply by knitting two of the stitches and also purling two of the stitches alternatively and repeating on each line which will provide a thicker and also more cosy scarf for the coldest days.

Matching winter hats and also knitted gloves could possibly be added to create a matching set using same double rib routine.

With time and effort it is possible to be able to advance onto basic garments like knitted neckties, and also mittens. Everyone begins with the basic knitted clothing and as the confidence increases so will the skills, you'll quickly start creating some magnificent outfits.

Hand knitted garments are extremely expensive to purchase so you should be able to reduce the cost significantly regarding hand knitwear simply by producing it yourself.

A superb solution to get the very best totally free practical help is available simply by becoming a member of a local knitting circle who gather for coffee mornings plus a chat. Brand new knitters are encouraged and also help is usually accessible.

Routine questions are usually answered and also knitting difficulties are resolved. The majority of the wool is normally donated to produce baby garments for local neonatal wards or blankets and garments to assist the refugees in areas of disasters. There are Mums that knit for school garden fetes to try and raise extra money for equipment for schools

When, you have learned the fine art of knitting you might turn it in to a rewarding activity. Put an advertisement inside a shop window or perhaps on the school message board regarding hand knitted school jumpers, childrens garments or perhaps less difficult, hats, scarves and also mittens, the requests can come flooding in.

When it comes to the particular care of one's knitted garments, read the knitting label on the ball of wool regarding care directions.

Know These Important Things Before You Learn How To Knit

Did you ever enjoy texture of yarns in your hand or wondering how that interesting color pattern was created in your favorite sweater? Then you will surely have fun learning the art of knitting. Knitting is one of several ways to turn thread or yarn into cloth-weaving and crochet. It's all about creativity.

The Introductory Steps of Knitting

Unlike woven fabric, knitted fabric consists entirely of horizontal parallel courses of yarn. The courses are joined to each other by interlocking loops in which a short loop of one course of yarn is wrapped over the bight of another course. Knitting can be done either by hand, described below, or by machine. What makes knitting even more exciting is the fact that this art can be easily learned.

In practice, hand knitting is usually begun by forming a base series of twisted loops of yarn on a needle. This is called Cast On. A second knitting needle is then used to reach through each loop in succession in order to snag a bight of yarn and pull a length back through the loop. This forms a new stitch. Work can proceed in the round (circular knitting) or by going back and forth in rows. Knitting can also be done by machines, which use a different mechanical system to produce nearly identical results.

Knitting Styles: There are two basic styles of knitting; English and Continental. The difference between the two is in how you hold the yarn. In the English method the yarn is held in the right hand. In continental knitting, the yarn is held in the left hand. Whatever your natural hand-preference, you should be able to master either method because the nature of knitting is basically ambidextrous.

The two basic stitches are knit or plain and purl or wrong. These two nominal stitches are actually identical, however, being the obverse and reverse of the same stitch. It is the variations and combinations of these two stitches that create all the different stitch patterns which are possible in knitting. Typically, a knit stitch is formed by inserting the needle in the front of the loop from a left-to-right perspective and pulling a loop of yarn through to form a new loop, while a purl stitch is formed by inserting the needle in the front of the loop from a right-to-left perspective.

A piece of knitting begins with the process of casting on, which involves the initial creation of the stitches on the needle. Casting on is the first step in knitting These stitches become the first row of stitches and one selvage of your work, usually the bottom or hem.

Different methods of cast on are used for different effects; one may be stretchy enough for lace, while another provides a decorative edging. Provisional cast on is used when the knitting will continue in both directions from the cast on.

The body of a knitted piece may include plain stitches or a number of colors and textured patterns. The number of active stitches remains the same as when cast on unless stitches are added -an increase or removed- a decrease to shape the item.

Patterns to Knit (Way to Online Income): There are lots of people who sit at home and publish great knitting patters from home. Since over the years they have collected and modified many knitting patterns. They make a great income by selling/publishing the patterns on the net. Once you have enough practice, even you could make some online income.

Many patterns can be made by using knit and purl stitches in various combinations. If only knits or only purls are used when working back and forth in rows, the result is called garter stitch.

Alternating rows of knits and purls result in stockinette stitch, also known as stocking or jersey stitch, the stitch most often used in commercial garments such as T-shirts. Different combinations of stitches can be used to form ribbing, cables, or other textures.

Once the knitted piece is finished, the remaining live stitches are cast off. Casting or binding off loops the stitches across each other so they can be removed from the needle without unraveling the item. Although the mechanics are different from casting on, there are a similar variety of methods and choices to be made. Of the various methods the most versatile are the Plain Bind-off and the Suspended Bind-off.

Knitted garments are most commonly made in pieces, where individual sections of the garment are knit separately and then sewn together once all the pieces have been completed. Seamless knitting, where a whole garment is knit as a single piece is also possible. Smaller items, such as socks and hats are usually knit in one piece on double pointed needles.

Knitting can be easily learned these days as there are many websites on knitting and also various books for beginners available on the market, where you can find step by step instructions. These instructions are so easy to follow that even kids would not find them difficult at all. Show your creativity, grab your knitting tools and learn to knit today!

Making Money From Knitting - Does it Cost a Lot to Start?

This is one of the most common questions about making money from knitting, and you'll find the answer very exciting!

One of the best things about starting a business from home or from a hobby is that you do not need much money to begin with. You will not have high rent costs or equipment costs because you probably already have a house to work from and you will already have knitting needles and even yarn! Learn How to Knit with Easy Beginner Instructions

Knitting provides a hobby that's fun, requires self-discipline and steadfastness, and allows you to feel a sense of achievement when your knitting project is complete.

Knitting Defined

Knitting is a craft in which two needles along with thread or yarn are used to create fabric pieces or garments by creating loops in the yarn. It can be used to create many types of fabric, from framed knitting artwork to sweaters, afghan quilts, throws, blankets, mittens, or even bedroom slippers.

The most basic type of knitting is called the knit stitch. With the knit stitch, you'll slip the needle through the loop from front to back. Then, loop the yarn around the needle and put the stitch through onto the second needle. Another common type of knitting is the purl stitch, which is handled in an opposite manner than the knit stitch. When learning how to knit through paid or free knitting lessons for beginners, you'll learn these basics first.

Why Learn How to Knit?

Knitting has been around for thousands of years, and probably always will be. So, why learn how to knit when you can easily buy finished fabrics in the marketplace?

One, knitting gives you a sense of accomplishment. When you complete a beautiful piece that can be framed as a home decor piece, you'll be proud to hang it on your wall. When you complete a lovely, warm sweater made with your own hands, you can proudly wear it and explain that you knitted it yourself.

Two, learning how to knit requires self-discipline and steadfastness. You must work on it consistently to complete a project. When children learn to knit, they also learn to set goals, stick with something until the end, and accomplish something special.

Three, knitted items make excellent gifts. When your friend or loved one becomes an expectant mother, you can immediately begin knitting a blanket for the baby. Or, knit slippers for your family members as Christmas gifts. Giving something you made with your own hands makes a very special gift from the heart.

Where to Learn

Knitting -- Beyond Phentex Slippers and Baby Bootees

Contrary to what you may be thinking, wearing hand knit garments won't get you on the Don't page of Glamour.

When you think of knitting, please do not picture baby bootees which most of us are too old to wear or the Phentex slippers your grandmother used to knit.

Today's knitters are creating fashion forward accessories and clothing for the true fashionista. Movie stars and celebrities love to knit and love wearing knitted clothing. There are many designer knitting yarns and patterns available so that you can create your own designer fashions.

You will find knitting very relaxing and rewarding as the end product is often a designer item that you may not be able to afford if you did not create it yourself.

Knitting represents a hobby for some people and an addiction for others. Some knit in front of the TV, some knit at work and others get together to knit in a group. Some knitters find that the repetitive motion is soothing. Knitters are artisans and the end result can be a wearable work of art or a thing of beauty with a very practical use.

Knitters are able to present friends and family with unique gifts that are truly one of a kind. With a little research you can find something for every taste and every budget. Knitted garments are not just for babies and old people--there are many patterns for scarves, shawls, wraps, hats, mittens, belts and bags that today's trendy teens love. Yarn choices are not limited to the ones your grandmother used--today you can use silk, cashmere, fur, faux fur, acrylic, wool, and many glittery and special effect yarns to create any look you desire.

You can easily find knitting patterns suitable as a gift for anyone. If you know the person well, you already know their likes and dislikes. For acquaintances that you don't know as well, you can learn what styles, colors and materials they like by watching what they wear to various functions. You can take a quick look around someone's home to determine their taste in home decor. There are many scarves and wraps where you don't even need to know the size of the recipient.

Knitting is not old fashioned--it is trendy right now and always in style. Knitting is not difficult--just start with a simple project like a scarf and your skills quickly will develop to the point where you are designing your own patterns. Help is available at yarn shops, online and in books.

How to Make Money Knitting Shawl Pieces

If you want to find out how to make a business knitting shawl pieces or knitting in general, you've got the right article.

I've actually been knitting for a few decades now. What started out as a hobby, became an interest of my childrens', and eventually became a business for me.

I can honestly say that it's been a blessing since it happened. I am not very business oriented and actually began knitting when my children were younger and at home. Knitting shawl pieces and other clothing was a very therapeutic activity. It gave me a chance to be creative and to do my own thing for a while too.

Basically, it gave me time for myself... which I so needed with four children in the house with me!

My business began years ago when I started knitting shawl pieces for my daughters while they were in junior high. The girls absolutely loved them and wore them to school throughout the fall and winter on basically a daily basis. The shawls caught on and I was literally knitting shawl pieces for all of their friends (I have three daughters!). You can imagine how busy I was!

Eventually, one shawl was not enough so the girls' mothers began to call me and request if I could continue

knitting shawl pieces for them. They themselves even promoted me in the girl scouts troop and PTA meetings to knit for fundraisers and events like that.

I started knitting shawl pieces for fundraisers, gifts, and to sell during the holidays and at the local crafts market.

I now continue knitting shawl pieces and sell them in my own knit boutique! I was very blessed because I was able to learn the essentials of starting and running a knitting business [http://www.knit-instructions.com].

If I did it, you can do it too! Get inspired and believe in yourself.. there is no limit to what you can do!

What Is the Basic Knitting Yarn to Be Used?

We first need to understand what a basic knitting yarn is. Yarn is knitted or woven into a fabric.

There are a lot more to yarns than we think, especially if you have some background in textiles you'll know what I mean. But we don't want to go to deep into textiles, we just want to understand what is yarn and what works best for knitting.

The most popular yarn that are used for home knitting is wool. Wool comes from certain animals hair, it's the fibers form the hair that go through a process to create the wool yarn. Then we buy the yarn to knit ourselves a jersey, blankets etc.

There are quite a few different animals that wool comes form and the quality of the wool will also depend on the breeding, climate, general care and food of these animals.

Merino Wool:

These merino sheep produce the best wool. Their hair fibers are strong, fine, elastic and has good working properties. Merino wool also have the best crimping amount of all wool fibers.

Class Two Wools:

This wool has also good qualities, more or less than same as merino. These sheep are mostly Bampton, Berkshire, Cornwall, Hereford etc.

Class Three Wools:

This wool type are coarser and have less crimp than Merino. The wool is also smoother and therefor have more luster. These wools are less elastic and resilient but is still a good quality to use.

Class Four Wools:

This class is actually from the mongrel sheep, also known as half-breeds. This wool is less desirable with the least elasticity and strength. This is mainly used for carpets, rugs etc.

Believe it or not but there are still a lot more to learn from wool and the process but the basic understanding here is to see that wool is a basic knitting yarn and probably the most popular one. But all of these facts will show you why some wool yarn are more expensive than others.

Knitting is a great hobby especially in winter. This article gives you a bit more information about the basic knitting yarn that are mostly used and quite popular. Wool are a nice and affordable yarn to use.

What You Need to Start Knitting

Knitting

Of all the different types of needlework, knitting is one of the most popular. Knitting is a specific type of needlework that is identified by the process of looped stitches pulled through one another. Knitting is commonly used to make clothing and accessories such as hats, scarves, sweaters and gloves, as well as blankets and afghans. Most commercially produced knitted items are made with knitting machines; their high speed is indispensable for meeting the demands of the world economy. Knitting machines have not done away with human knitting, however; far from it, knitting has gone through a recent resurgence in popularity as a craft and hobby.

One of the great things about knitting is that you can make a wide variety of items with the same relatively simple steps. Just select a different type of yarn and a different variation in your stitch, and you can come up with a very different end product.

The origins of knitting

Archaeologists have found evidence of knitting as far back as the first millennium. Obviously, knitting has been around for a long time. Indeed, even the ancient Egyptians are known to have knitted colorful socks and other accessories. It is generally thought that the first peoples to use knitting to make blankets and clothing were the ancient Arabians.

The history of knitting was pretty straightforward until the invention of the knitting machine. The knitting machine completely changed the purpose of knitting. Before the industrialization of knitting, it was an essential task for many families, a means to keep warm and clothed. After the knitting machine, blankets and clothing were mass-produced far more cheaply than any one person making it. For this reason, knitting today is primarily a recreational pursuit. Knitters enjoy gathering together to socialize. People love to knit because it can be an extremely relaxing way to pass the time and ease one's nerves. The products of their pastimes are often presented as gifts, which can save you some money as well.

The demographics of knitting are changing as well. Knitting used to be the sole preserve of primarily older women. More and more, however, knitting is becoming popular with younger generations. Indeed, some studies show that knitting has risen in popularity among the 25 to 35 age group by as much as 150%.

Different types of knitting

The two main types of straight-needle knitting are weft knitting and warp knitting. Weft knitting requires only one string of yarn at time, but can be more susceptible to snags and runs. Warp knitting, on the other hand, is usually done by machine, so when most people think of knitting, they are usually thinking of weft knitting. Another important type of knitting that is commonly done by hand is circular knitting. This method uses a circular needle, and creates a "tube" of yarn when completed - great for socks and other tubular garments.

What materials do you need to start knitting?

Knitting is an ancient and rudimentary craft. As such, the materials that you need to knit are fairly basic; when it comes down to it, all you need to knit is some needles and some yarn. You should pay close attention to the type of yarn you use, however, as it will have a significant impact on how your final product looks and feels. For instance, certain yarns are appropriate for stretchy materials, while other yarns will produce less stretchy, more solid final results. The width and thickness of the yarn should be taken into account when selecting knitting needles to use. Picking out the yarn can be one of the more pleasant steps in making an item, as knitting yarn comes in a variety of colors and styles and it is always fun to play around with your imagination. Some are solid colors, others have multiple colors for striping, and others include sparkles and other embellishments.

Knitting resources

The best thing for those serious about knitting is to join a knitting circle. In a knitting circle, members will meet with their yarn and needles at the home of different members or local coffee shop and just knit, share tips, and socialize.

If you are on your own, you can always turn to the Internet for a wealth of knitting resources. Groups, forums, and message boards provide a means of communication and getting together for knitters. Through these avenues, many knitting enthusiasts share tips, techniques, patterns, and tales of successful projects. The Internet is also a great place to order knitting materials and patterns, and can help novice knitters get past some of the challenges that face those new to the craft.

Craft and hobby stores will also carry a robust selection of knitting needles, yarns and patterns. Do not be afraid to ask employees in these stores for help - more often than not, you will be able to find experienced knitters who can offer you some sound advice and tips.

What Are the Differences Between Knitting and Crocheting?

Let's face it - the end product is usually made with wool and unless you have experienced either of these two age-old crafts, you may miss the difference. Both home crocheting and knitting are creating a piece of fabric from interlocking loops of thread or yarn. But the difference lies in the details and I will try to explain some of the differences to you.

Home crocheting is done with one single crochet hook. That is all that is required when you are crocheting. Yarn or cotton strands work with this age-old art, and you can use one strand or two, but the main thing is that crocheting is only worked with one hook.

Knitting is always done with two needles at minimum. If someone is knitting socks or other tubular objects, they may require another set of double-pointed needles. Whereas crochet hooks only come in one piece, knitting can sometimes be done on a circular needle which is one piece as well with a knitting needle attached to both ends.

Crocheting patterns always tell the crocheter to chain so many stitches whereas the knitting patterns tell the knitter to cast on so many stitches. This is where the main differences begin.

In crocheting, when the home crocheter is told to chain so many stitches they are creating a foundation to work into whereas the knitter, when told to cast on so many stitches is creating what is considered the first row of your project. I should mention at this time that sometimes instead of casting on some directions tell you to bind on so many stitches. They both mean the same thing in the knitting world.

When someone crochets, they have only one stitch active (on the hook) at any given time. You work it stitch by stitch. But when you knit, you have an entire row of stitches active at once (transferring them from one needle to the other as you make each stitch in a new row).

When you are knitting if you drop a stitch, that dropped stitch will cause a run or gap in your fabric and ruin your work. But in crocheting, it is impossible to drop a stitch. You may miss a stitch, but this will catch up to you later down the road. Sometimes you can find a way to recover that lost stitch and no one's the wiser for it. Sometimes, in crocheting, with a needle and thread, it is possible to stitch that thread so that no one sees the missed stitch; however, be careful that your pattern works out down the road because 9/10 times, it won't work out in about 2 or 3 rows and you end up ripping out to the missed stitch.

Finishing a crochet project is a matter of cutting the yarn, pull it through the loop on your hook and knotting the end securely. In knitting, you must bind off or cast off all the stitches one by one on the knitting needle and after the last one is completed, pull the yarn through the loop on your hook and knot securely.

When the projects are completed, if you snag a knit sweater the one snagged stitch will often pull and pucker the fabric or the sweater may develop a run. If you snag a crocheted sweater, only the one snagged stitch will be affected by the snag - if it breaks, the rest of the sweater will usually hold together long enough to give you time to fix it.

Knitted fabric typically has more give than crocheted fabric, but crocheted fabric may have more bulk to it.

One of the last and greatest differences between home crocheting and knitting is that knitting can be done by machine, but crocheting can't. Crocheting is a unique craft that can only be done by hand.

Different types of weaving fabric

Weaving is the process of creation of fabrics or textiles. Looms are basically tools or machines used in the craft of weaving. There are many types of hand to the largest and most modern looms. Used to deform or turns of thread to keep the correct voltage to the tissue. Although weaving comes in different shapes and size, their functions are all equal.
Handlooms are the first types of looms used vertically while is weighted the deformation of thread. The warp threads hanging from a branch of a tree or a piece of wood and then connected to the Earth. The warp threads are inserted manually by hand or a piece of palo are sometimes used and serve as the space shuttle.
During the early years, the process is more difficult because the thread of deformation are raised and lowered one by one. People, then, use a rod that composes the purge to speed up the process. Then it is easier for the thread of the plot to through deformation.
Earth looms are used horizontally. Warp threads are spread with the use of two-pin plugs. This type of loom is more difficult to use because you need to lean on weaving. To resolve this problem, they made looms pit where the weaver sits with both legs in the well. This makes it easier to weave.
Frame looms as its name suggests is a painting in the form of framework consisting of several clubs and Board connected together at right angles. This type of loom is almost the same as the loom of land but only differs with its size. Frame looms are portable and less expensive in comparison with other looms. Sometimes called small loom because of its size. It can be placed on the back of the Weaver.
ARC looms are mainly used for small strips of beading. It is composed of bent wood. Threads are inserted into a piece of wood that has eleven holes. Threads, then connect the bent wood. The loom has been used by early Native Americans.
Weaving looms have become popular in the processing industry. It has been a model of loom frame. This looms can produce fabrics with various designs.
A tape back is another type of loom. It is attached to the waist of the Weaver while the other end is associated to a fixture as a door or a tree. To adjust the tension, the weavers is enough push back. This type of loom can be rolled and carried around easily.
Power looms are looms more convenient. It is an automatic loom introduced by Jacques Vaucanson in 1745. Edmund Cartwright became another power loom in 1785. Principle power envisions use of ferries to operate. It was during the 20th century, when the shuttle looms were less power which made weaving easier and more efficient.
Due to technological advances, power looms have improved in terms of production capacity, ease of use and functionality. They include the looms of Jet of water, air-jet looms and the team operated looms.
Most of these innovations are used for industrial purposes capable of weaving in less time and more precise compared with manually operated looms.

Blocking lace in circles

I may not be those who will spend hours with tiny needles Upteen small yarn and intricate patterns, a beautiful bit all produce scarf, but luckily for you is Eileen Casey. It has recently a Herbert Niebling (in just three months!), which is a thing of beauty.

However, this at the top, is that you spend out this time, which knit it and when you finally from the needles take it, it looks like a big pile problems. It is rough, funky, the wrong form and not nearly as Holey and beautiful, as it should be.

Blocking is important, no matter what kind of top project, that you are working, but it is especially important to block circular top, shawls therefore come from the right size, shape and to look for with the law.

Luckily for us, Eileen documented their Niebling, the absolutely crucial time, effort and dedication that block so we all could see, which is also block in a large piece of the lead. And after all this work you knit the thing hit, want you it look its best, when you wear it?

It has become such a big deal manners to a fan of Miss, who wrote the gentle reader in regarding whether it is suitable to people during a religious service knit or a small service, where to see the exporting that someone would be knitting was (scroll you to the second question on this page). The good lady response has some questions, whether Miss manners is not a knitter to leave.

It opens:

Please deselect - repeat, non-- make a hostile approach to knitters. Did you not notice that they are armed with long, lace sticks?

She goes on to suggest, that this is the noise of the knitting, which annoys the reader, they should work on the anger of the people of {t}, {t}, tap send text messages on their phones, because certainly noise is just annoying as the quiet click on pins.

I feel the same way, and I'm sure many of you do too, so that I wanted to continue in questions about how you feel about people in the Church or other quiet places (if you are not Chruchgoer substitute a concert or lecture for Church). Are one of those annoying women, stitches, or you can be during the sermon your needles in the car and wish that everyone else would be for? I would love your thoughts, to hear both the survey and the comments below.

Why call it, Kitchener stitch?

There are a lot of terms, which with knitting come, and sometimes they are curious. Why is two pieces of knitting mattress sewing together stitch? (I really know the answer, that a.) There was a person named Kitchener, and what he with knitting, so that we now sometimes call have Stoppers a toe or other seams to do the Kitchener stitch?

kitchener stitch toeThe toe of a baby sock grafted with Kitchener stitch. ? Sarah E. white.

There was actually a guy named Kitchener, Horatio Herbert Kitchener, in fact and tradition says knitting, that he wore a knitting pattern as part of the war effort in World War I, which is a refined toe involved, instead of a foot with seam as was common at that time. It is not really known if there is truth to this story, but it sounds good to me.

What is known to the person of Kitchener, is that his image, a world war recruiting poster, who has stolen the Americans has been used in the development of "Uncle Sam wants you"-posters. So even though the Kitchener/knit connection is shaky, is a good reason, know a little something about this military man.

Shrugging going back to school

I was a big old journalism nerd back in school (OK, not only in high school) and is one of the things I most vividly recalls the journalism rooms to my high school, that it seemed like it was always cold. I think it only me, I would have about that because cold, most of the time I that, but it's a shame, then shrugs knew.

child's lacy shrugOne of Eileen's cuties modeling the Lacy little shrug. Eileen ?, Casey.

A shrug of the shoulders is in fact a garment that provides a little (or much, equipped for my shrug, which has long sleeves) poor coverage and has a piece of fabric-knit or other mode-across through the back, generally the same length as the width of the sleeve, although some can increase and decrease are included.

A short-sleeved shrug of the shoulders is the perfect summer and fall early accessories, because they are small enough to stuff in your bag or backpack, whenever you need them. You are quick to knit, and cotton quite simply and easy as my child can shrug or can play with top in Eileen Casey Lacy little twitch for children and women Lacy shrug.

Eileens uses a pretty star mesh rib pattern, which makes a nice, open it again, perfect for summer days, if you need just a little coverup. It is also just about every outfit, a little dressier, look, this is always a good thing. This would be super cute in white as a little for the flower girl or other participation in a summer wedding girls shrug.

How to make your own fabric loom very cheap

When I first saw a loom for weaving all thought was "what a waste of time". Later I bought one for my granddaughter and she began to make hats in it. This was good for a child but I didn't use him as an adult.

I already knew how weave to hand and machine, also crochet so it seemed only a toy for me. My sister bought some looms and were busy making hats of the shelters. Paid little attention to them until they seemed to be having so much fun. I bought a cheap set of looms, only thus could join them in their fun. Soon I realized that it was able to complete a hat in a fraction of the time that took me to one hand. Yes I could weave in the fastest team but does not carry a machine move her sisters when the gals are only together for a little.

Even thought OK this is good for weaving hats, but it was all I saw him doing. So, naturally, had to start cheating at and to see what you could do as well as hats and scarves.

I was pleasantly surprised with what I could do these very basic weaving. But the cost of buying a rake or Board loo is out of reach for many people. So I sat down with my son in law and we have talking about how to do a loom.

With a gently grout Board and some pins could be a fabric loom of any size or caliber who decides he wants to. The weaving of fine caliber are more expensive than the regular meter so it is beneficial to make your own. Space required the pins in ¾ inch to regular loom. With this loom, you need to use two strands of thread. Insert the plugs of half inch apart and can weave a blanket of Nice baby with a strand of thread of 4 layers.

That is proposed when the Po' people loom. You can do in any size, round or straight. The most important thing to remember about a tissue or rake loom knitting is that the wood should be smooth and plugs to equal distance if meter of large or small.

So even if you are using a loom weaving home you can make beautiful hats, scarves, shoes, Afghans, sweaters, boots and much more. Do not limit yourself as I did, try them and find out how much fun can be.
